Well, she is a superstar
look how she made so far
She didn't hesitate
To get what it takes
Well, she is a superstar
Well, I like your loyalty
I like your stability
You will not hesitate
To rot in this place
Well, I like your loyalty
Every achievement
she deserves
Every medal and award
she gets is rightfully hers
She left this place so fast
Well, she is a superstar
Unlike you who stayed past
You will always be the last
You must be so obsolete
to stay in a place like this
I bet you should keep grinding
teach the new "her" everything
So that
She becomes the new superstar
and travels to the Mars
You can just stay on Earth
A place that you rightfully deserve
PS: A little context behind this poem/song. A bright new trainee was hired by my supervisor. She was smart, intelligent and very talented and she needed some wet-lab/bench experience as she was fresh out of college. Almost everyone in our lab took great effort and time in training her, and she learnt very fast. She was also very productive, thanks to the collective effort. But, my supervisor always praised her while belittling our effort. He would sometimes ask us to learn things from her which she learned from us in the first place. I bet she was also enjoying this attention and never really admitted that it was a collective contribution. One day she got a very lucrative job in Industry and left. Several months later she was promoted in her new job. Now, my supervisor keeps commenting in a rather insulting way, how she was really a "superstar" and that's why she left the lab so fast, but how he now just wants to hire people who are "stable" like the rest of us. Basically he means that none of us qualify to be a superstar like her, that's why we are still here. Funny thing is he has little to no contribution to her success. All he did was hire a bright young trainee and handed all the training job to us. Now he insults us while milking all the credit for himself by commenting under her achievement posts, "Very well deserved" etc. I am really happy for her success and I also believe that she deserves more, but because of people like my supervisor, I have no motivation to grind anymore. I have no energy to spare on training anymore because all I will be is an obsolete "stable" researcher who will rot and die in the same place, while my supervisor will sing praises for the newcomers.
I have a lot of grievances against this supervisor of mine, but I will keep it for some other time. I will talk about how he is : sexist, biased, insulting, demotivating and sometimes even hostile.
I hope no one ever gets a supervisor like this. I am seriously trying to run away from this hell-hole, like ASAP.
